Land Clearing
Construction site preparation usually begins with land clearing, which involves the removal of trees, shrubs, and other vegetation present on the site. This process may also entail demolishing old structures and eliminating any other obstructions that might hinder the construction project.
Site Stripping (or Topsoil Stripping)
Once the land clearing has removed the larger elements from the construction site, the next step involves clearing away smaller obstructions.
Stripping of existing topsoils will get you down to a solid base to begin construction. Stripping is typically a 8″ to 12″ cut down to non organic soils.
The extent of site stripping required depends on several factors, including:
- The volume of materials that need to be relocated
- The distance the materials will be hauled
- Site conditions at the time of moving to stockpile on site
Excavation
Preparing the site for your project typically involves a cut to fill process. Excavation is required to cut the high areas down to grade. Excavated materials will either be placed as fill to raise low areas, create perimeter berms. Excess materials require exporting soils.
